Eddie Izzard is heading to Belleville, Ontario to perform their version of Charles Dickens' Great Expectations on September 24, 2021 at The Empire Theatre.

"You may know me as someone who performs live comedy around the world, but now I perform live drama as well.

On the 7th Feb 1812 Charles Dickens was born. On the 7th Feb 1962 I was born. This is exactly 150 years apart. What does this mean you may ask? I don't know. But I've decided to run with it.

Being a dyslexic person, I had never read a great work of literature, but because of the link, I decided to start with Charles Dickens, reading and recording an audio book of his famous story Great Expectations.

This I have now done and is available for download, the unabridged version in all its majesty.

But I realised it would be a good idea to complement this by performing an abridged (90 mins) solo stage version.

Great Expectations is a story of mystery, friendship, unrequited love, betrayal and redemption. I bring all your favourite characters to life in a dramatic version of the epic story using storytelling techniques I have developed in my stand up comedy.

In fact Dickens himself performed his own works live on stage across North America, so I'm just following in his footsteps.

All my profits will go to charity and all performances will take place in COVID safe conditions."
