Fresh from a sell-out world tour, a hit Netflix stand-up special, hosting Amazon Prime series The World’s Strangest Jobs, and an arena run supporting Trevor Noah, South African comedian Schalk Bezuidenhout (pronounced “Shalk Bu-zay-den-hote”) brings his acclaimed new show Hey Hey Divorcé to Canada this fall, kicking off with two nights at Toronto’s Royal Theatre on September 24 and 25, before heading to Calgary and Vancouver.

Following a successful run across the UK, Ireland, Europe, Australia and New Zealand earlier this year, Hey Hey Divorcé arrives in Canada after earning rave reviews from audiences and critics alike. The show marks Schalk's first stand-up hour in the wake of a marriage breakdown and sees him at his most personal, honest, and unfiltered, while remaining just as side-splittingly funny.

In Hey Hey Divorcé, Schalk opens up about rebuilding his life after divorce with the same sharp wit, self-deprecating humour and relatable storytelling that have made him one of South Africa's most beloved comedians. It's a deeply human, laugh-out-loud hour that proves sometimes talking things through is cheaper than therapy. 

Schalk Bezuidenhout is a comedian and actor who has recently completed a massive world tour with his show Crowd Pleaser, performing across Australia, New Zealand, the West Indies, the Netherlands and Germany, before embarking on a sold-out UK and Ireland tour that included two shows at London's iconic Clapham Grand.

This world tour followed years of success performing internationally, selling out runs at London’s Leicester Square Theatre, Soho Theatre and Edinburgh Festival Fringe, as well as opening for Trevor Noah in 2015, 2017, and most recently on an arena tour in summer 2023. He has performed sell-out shows at the Melbourne International Festival, Adelaide Festival, New Zealand International Comedy Festival, Brisbane Comedy Festival, Perth Comedy Festival, and Montreux Comedy Festival.

On TV, Schalk is the host of the Amazon Video series The World’s Strangest Jobs, has his own stand-up special for Comedy Central and recorded a special for Netflix as part of Only Jokes Allowed. On radio, he has appeared on shows such as Andrew Maxwell’s series Welcome to Wherever You Are (BBC Radio 4) and Comedians Vs The News (BBC World Service). As an actor, Schalk played the lead role in the major feature length film Kanarie. He is also the lead writer and star in the South African version of The Office (Die Kantoor), which premiered in January.

His success as a live performer is reflected by the host of accolades to his name, including winner of the Savanna Newcomer Award at the Comics Choice Awards 2013, nominee for Breakthrough Act at the Comics Choice Awards 2014, winner of the Intermediate Award at the Comics Choice Awards 2015, and nominee for Savanna Comics Choice Comedy Awards Comedian of the Year 2024.
